Kawake is the leader of the Will of the Dragon Crew, a twenty-times champion of Drag-Ball and its only undefeated champion. He has retired from the game since an accident left his legs paralyzed five years ago. He rides the Earth-class dragon Rumbull. He has only appeared in Episode 12: Misjudged.
Physical Appearance[]
Kawake is right-handed, 6'7" tall and weighs 320 Lbs. His secondary draconium influences include Green, Blue and Turquoise.[1] He has a muscular build, dark skin, red eyes and white hair tied in a bun at the back. His face is clean-shaven. He wears a tight light-blue and brown jumpsuit.
Character[]
Kawake knows the technicalities of Drag-Ball inside out. He informed Parmon that his gear was inappropriate and could put his dragon out of balance and cause them hurt. Artha compares Kawake to Parmon, who is often called "professor" in the Penn Racing Crew.
After his accident, Kawake retired from Drag-Ball to hide his disability from the public. Evidently, some people (like Moordryd) think that he was too scared to continue and compete, as a consequence of which Kawake feels misjudged. Word Paynn was able to manipulate this lingering insecurity to get Kawake to do his bidding.
A part of Kawake wishes for him to get back on his feet and be "useful" again. Kawake wishes for peace between humans and dragons, believes in teamwork and refrains from judging people. This led him to trust Paynn despite having heard the rumours about him trying to start another Dragon-Human War.
Relationships[]
Connor Penn[]
Kawake tells Artha that he knew his father, and considers him a great man.
Artha Penn[]
Kawake holds a positive perception of Artha owing to his good rapport with Connor. Artha looks up to him as a coach and is excited to play along his side. After losing the match, Kawake reveals to a confrontational Artha that his lower body is paralyzed. Artha regrets what he said and wants to apologize. As the Dragon Booster, he convinces Kawake to come out of his self-limiting mould and work as a team to stop the avalanche.
Moordryd Paynn[]
Kawake holds a negative perception of Moordryd, possibly due to having heard rumours about his father trying to start another Dragon-Human War. Moordryd teases him about his sudden retirement and mockingly dares him to replace Parmon in Artha's team. Kawake accepts under pressure from the cheering audience but also to teach him a lesson. Moordryd is surprised by the audience support and visibly distressed.
When Cain scores the winning goal for their team, Moordryd calls Kawake the "greatest Drag-Ball player of all time" while teasing Artha.
Word Paynn[]
Kawake has heard rumours about Paynn trying to foment another Dragon-Human War. Paynn tries to sympathize with Kawake by weaving a story of how he was misjudged for developing racing and battling gear and offers to unite dragons and humans and construct new legs for him using Grey Draconium. Kawake is inclined to give Paynn the benefit of the doubt but feels cheated when he realizes Paynn's real motive.

Quotes[]
- "Drag-Ball is about teamwork and how strength and skill find balance and fit together for a single pupose. I have returned to pass on what I know." - Episode 12: Misjudged
- "The Will of the Dragon Crew always thinks before it acts, young ones...we prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt and we do not judge." - Episode 12: Misjudged
Trivia[]
- "Kawake" is derived from "Quake" and is pronounced as such.
- The seat on his dragon is actually his wheelchair, with the wheels attached to the sides; Rumbull used to mag the wheelchair together or apart.
- His age has not been revealed but he appears to be in his late 30's or early 40's. This would make him the oldest crew-member to be seen in the show. According to an official release by the show's creators, Kawake is aged 28[1], which, however, seems unlikely given the timeline of his career. It is not known if there is a mistake in the episode or the release.
