The Choosing, Part 1 is the first episode of the first season in Dragon Booster. It first aired in the US on October 23, 2004. It was later aired in Canada on October 26, 2004 and in Australia on February 24, 2005.

Plot Summary[]

The episode begins with Word Paynn narrating to Moordryd the history of the Dragon-Human War and the Ancient Gold Dragon of Legend and Ancient Dragon Booster who stopped the fight. Aware of Connor Penn having bred a new gold dragon and holding secret rider auditions, he asks his son to disguise himself as an Elite Class racer, infiltrate Penn Stables and steal the dragon before it chooses a rider.

At Penn Stables, 16-year old Artha Penn and Parmon Sean discuss about their future plans over a round of the Vid Game they are developing together. Parmon thinks Artha would make a great racer but Artha disapproves of racing with real dragons and wants to design the Vid Game, despite his father urging him to join the racing Academy. Beau interrupts their conversation and crushes Artha's new wireless game console. Artha and Moordryd have a run in, and the two are introduced.

Connor introduces Beau to the racers being auditioned and demonstrates his ability to mag gear of all types of any levels. Connor spots Moordryd and sends him away, citing that his stables are off-limit to Down City Crews. Realizing that Word knows about Beau, Connor gives Artha the gold amulet and tells him how he came to obtain it, along with the Dragon Priests' prophesy about a new forthcoming Dragon-Human War. Artha is instructed to give this amulet to whoever Beau chooses as his rider and keep it safe in the meantime.

As all the riders are being maged-off by Beau, Kitt Wonn makes an appearance. She is confident but Beau mags her off and crashes her into Artha. As the remaining auditionees back out, she suggests Artha should try out. As he attempts to get on, Beau spots Lance eating a chocolate bar and moves towards him, causing Artha to slip and fall. Artha is ridiculed by the others and storms off.

Moordryd breaks into Penn Stables during the night and attempts to steal Beau, but he is defeated by Connor. He returns later that night with his crew, setting off a bomb in a major section of the stables. Artha, who was outside investigating the strange noises coming from the stables, returns to rescue Lance and Connor. Beau is trapped by the Dragon Eye Crew with Green Trapping gear and Black Control gear.

Artha finds Lance but they are not able to escape. Hearing their call for help, Beau breaks free of the gear and mag-blasts the Dragon Eye Crew as Artha pushes Lance through an air vent to escape. Beau breaks into the room to save Artha. As Artha climbs onto Beau, a gold star appears on his head; Artha is chosen as the new Dragon Booster.

The two meet up with Lance and flee the Stables. Beau takes them to hide in Squire’s End. Parmon joins the trio and reveals that he couldn’t find Connor; only his half-burnt old racing jacket. Artha determines to race with Beau in the all-city races to earn and keep track of the Dragon Eye Crew. Beau disguises himself by changing colour to red and blue. A short montage shows the adventures that are yet to come on the series.
