"If you hit the ground, you lose the round!"

Dragon Joust or Dragon Jousting is a type of competition game played in Dragon City by two players and their dragons. It is used to determine the leader of the Down City Council of Twelve as prescribed by ancient rites.

Phistus, the leader of the Grip of the Dragon crew and the Council, is the all-time city jousting champion. Dragon Joust was introduced in Episode 4: Opposing Force.

Arena[]

The jousting arena is improvised on a race track at Squire's End. A symmetric fence of varying height is installed and players charge at each other on opposite sides and from opposite ends of the fence. The fence is lowest at the middle -- this is where the two players are supposed to make contact. Viewing stands for the audience are situated on one side of the arena.

Rules[]

When the incumbent leader of the Council disgraces his/her position, (s)he may be challenged by a person (not necessarily a member) for the leadership position.

The two players, seated on their dragons, charge at each other with jousting spears, armour and shields at the signal of the referee. The player who hits the ground loses the round. If no player hits the ground, the round is repeated. The winner is decided on best-2-out-of-3 basis. Cheating leads to disqualification.

At the end of the match, one other person may challenge the leader for the position.

Toy Version[]

Lance Penn is frequently shown in different episodes playing with a toy version of this game. The toy set consists of a remote-controlled dragon with a rider with a jousting staff in attack position on its back, and a set of dolls (pins). In a tenpin-bowling style, the little dolls are lined up as targets, and the child uses the dragon to knock out the targets. In many cases though, Lance is seen ramming the toy into people's feet, sometimes with good consequences like causing Cain to drop and break his wraith dragon controls in Episode 4: Opposing Force or in (most) other cases, hurting Parmon Sean.
